These are made from pool noodles. (See the Standing Gnomes Page for instructions for pool noodle gnomes) They were made for my Radiation Team. My sessions were right before Christmas and they used them as their version of "Elf On a Shelf" Everyday it was a scavenger hunt to see what they were up to.
One of the girls sent it to one of the National Radiation Groups and they posted it on their Facebook Page, so I'm assuming they liked them.

Fundraisers
Bra Bridge
Bras were sold to be decorated. They were hung across a bridge in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. Not only did the proceeds for the bras go to finding a cure, it also raised awareness of Breast Camcer.

Relay For Life
Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Each year, more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place in over twenty countries. Events are held in local communities, university campuses and as virtual campaigns.
Ours was held at a local high school, my sisters were co-chairs for a few years. Teams collect donations/sponsors and tag team walk around the track for the entire event.
Survivors Lap
One lap is just for the Survivors, it's a great way to spread Hope.

Miss Relay For Life
Contestants dress in their very best and walk around the crowd with an open purse to collect money. The audience votes with their donations.
Troy lost his crown to my NEPHEW. Apparently adorable beats intimidating
My husband Troy won 2 yrs in a row. When the big bearded guy in a dress and curlers asks for money you give it to him.
Other activities are scheduled by the Relay Committee to help raise money.

Beat Cancer Smash Car
Anyone could take the sledge hammer to the car body and let out their frustrations. Windows required a donation and were priced by size.
Teams are given a space in the infield for participants to hang out when not walking or to set up their own fun activities to help raise more money. We like to put the FUN in FUNdraiser.

Luminaria Bags
Like the Survivors Lap and Dinner, Luminaria Bags are a part of every Relay For Life. These are basically paper bags that are sold and decorated for those who have fought, are fighting or lost their lives to cancer. A candle is lit and placed inside and they are put around the track. It's a very emotional scene when you can visually see how many lives this stupid disease has affected.

Relay For Life is not the only fundraiser we have had for cancer. The luminaria bags have been a part of these too. These are from a Pig Roast along the river. Much smaller group yet the bags covered a large section of the river bank.

After losing her hair to cancer, when it grew back, she cut it off and donated it to Locks of Love. It was made into a wig for another cancer patient.
